How Often Should You Have Your House Cleaned? Advice For Dunfermline Homes

It’s one of the first things people ask us when they’re thinking about getting a cleaner. How often do I actually need one? The honest answer is that it depends on your home and how you live in it. But there are some simple ways to work out what makes sense for you.

Dunfermline has grown a lot over the last few years, with plenty of new estates and busy young families alongside older homes in and around the city centre. So we see every kind of household, and every kind of cleaning routine.

Weekly Cleaning

Weekly visits suit busy households where the house gets a lot of use. Think families with young children, homes with pets, or couples who both work long hours and don’t want to spend their weekend cleaning.

With a weekly clean, nothing gets the chance to build up. Kitchens and bathrooms stay on top, floors stay clear of pet hair and you come home to a house that feels looked after. It’s also the option people tend to stick with once they’ve tried it.

Fortnightly Cleaning

Fortnightly is the most popular choice for a lot of homes. It works well if you keep things reasonably tidy day to day but want the deeper jobs taken care of regularly, like bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, dusting and floors.

It’s a good middle ground for smaller households, people who work from home part of the week, or anyone who wants help without a weekly commitment.

Monthly Or One Off Cleans

A monthly clean is handy if you’re generally on top of things and just want a proper reset every few weeks. A one off clean is better for specific moments, like before visitors arrive, after a busy spell at work, a spring clean or getting a house ready to sell.

If your home hasn’t had a thorough clean in a while, it’s usually worth starting with a deep clean and then moving onto a regular routine. That way the regular visits are maintaining a good standard rather than catching up every time.

Things That Change How Often You Need A Clean

  • Pets. Dogs and cats mean more hair, more muddy paws and more frequent hoovering.
  • Children. Sticky hands, spills and toys everywhere add up quickly.
  • Allergies. Regular dusting and vacuuming makes a real difference if anyone suffers from hay fever or asthma.
  • Working from home. More time at home means more cooking, more mess and more wear.
  • The time of year. Fife winters bring wet coats, muddy boots and windows that are shut for months, so many people book more often from autumn onwards.

What A Regular Clean Usually Covers

Every home is different, so we always agree what’s included before we start. A typical visit might cover dusting, hoovering and mopping floors, cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, wiping down surfaces and emptying bins. If there’s something extra you want looked at, just tell us. You can read more about how it works on our domestic cleaning page.

Still Not Sure?

A good way to decide is to try fortnightly for a couple of months. If the house is still feeling on top of you between visits, move to weekly. If it’s staying spotless, you might find monthly is enough. There’s no right answer, only the one that fits your week.

We clean homes across Dunfermline, Rosyth, Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay and the rest of West Fife, and you’ll find the full list on our areas we cover page. For a price based on your home, request a free quote or give us a ring on 01592 214138.
